Upper Dolpo Trek

Upper Dolpo TrekThe Upper Dolpo trail normally starts at Juphal or from Jomsom and passes over the Numa La (5,400 meters) pass. The trail is a minimum 20 days trek and is a relatively easy trail but challenging enough just to make the experience worthwhile. Shorter treks are also available for those with less time and experience and to build the confidence to tackle the full trek on a later date.

The trail passes through the majestic snow capped peaks that shadow the pine and Rhododendron forests. It follows the ancient Trans Himalayan Trade Route that for generations brought the stone salt down from Tibet to the lower Nepal and hikers might even encounter the yak caravans carrying salt to this day. The seemingly wild and harsh land breeds some of the most hospitable people on earth and it is a humbling experience to see and experience the joys of a simple life that for some might seem impossible. The isolated monasteries, rare villages, and miles of nature’s beauty uninterrupted by human ingenuity have a way of calming the soul of a tired body.
